General Description:
The Store Manager of Moraine Lake Lodge is a seasonal position, with the possibility of extending to a year-round role for the right candidate. The role begins in February in Vancouver, BC, where the Store Manager completes sales and inventory training prior to the lodge season.
During the operating season, the Store Manager lives off-site in Field, BC, in a private room in shared staff housing with other retail team members. Accommodation and three meals per day are included.
The Store Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Moraine Lake Trading Post, with a strong focus on inventory management and providing clear direction to the retail team. The role supports continuous improvement in guest service, merchandise presentation, sales performance, and operational cost management.
Success in this position requires a collaborative problem-solving approach, strong delegation skills, the ability to set priorities, and a commitment to delivering an exceptional guest experience. Strong managerial and training abilities, along with a proven track record of motivating teams, are essential. The Store Manager works closely with the Senior Retail Manager/Buyer, Assistant Buyers, the GM of Moraine Like Lodge, and Ownership.
General Operations and Guest Services
- Monitor and ensure communication of daily and weekly store information and sales goals to retail team,
- Analyze sales and product reports to ensure sales budgets are achieved, identifying and communicating with a sense of urgency areas of opportunity to the Senior Retail Manager/Buyer,
- Ensure staffing levels are monitored to optimize sales generation, inventory replenishment, and guest service expectations,
- Regularly coach the retail team on product knowledge, selling techniques, and inventory management,
- Meet with Senior Retail Manager/Buyer on a weekly basis and review team productivity, to achieve desired results and balance guest service with merchandise standards (store cleanliness and replenishment, etc.),
- Create and post team schedules in a timely manner, ensuring maximum sales floor coverage,
- Develop team through one-on-one coaching, and deliver team incentive plans as per Senior Retail Manager/Buyer,
- Achieve all store financial, revenue and expense targets,
- Communicate, implement and ensure compliance of all company policies, programs, standards and merchandise presentation,
- Lead efforts to protect company assets through Loss Prevention education, polices and awareness,
- Train team members on proper cash register and cash handling procedures and policies,
- Be knowledgeable about Capilano Group: Moraine Lake Lodge (MLL), Cathedral Mountain Lodge (CML), Capilano Suspension Bridge Park (CSBP), Stanley Park Pavilion (PAV), Stanley’s Bar & Grill (Stanley’s) and Prospect Point & Trading Co. (PPC).
- Execute any reasonable business directives from the senior management team.
- Other duties as assigned.
Merchandise Management
- Create best practices with Senior Retail Manager/Buyer and train team on all receiving and processing procedures,
- Train, coach and review inventory systems and warehouse organization with the Retail Inventory team member for optimal merchandise management,
- Ensure replenishment practices are established, coached and maintained for guest satisfaction and sales goals,
- Ensure merchandise receiving is performed correctly and that purchasing is entering into retail systems correctly,
- Lead implementation of merchandise and visual standards as established by Senior Retail Manager/Buyer,
- Work with Senior Retail Manager/Buyer ensure guest feedback on current product and requests for other products are communicated regularly and timely by team,
- Work with the Accounting Department to ensure proper accurate completion of paperwork,
- Ensure all MSD and return forms are being filled out correctly and accurately,
- Accurately record damages, identify areas to minimize write offs,
- Review negative inventory reports, identify any problem areas and work with Senior Retail Manager/Buyer to resolve.

Working Conditions:
- Able to work a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays, to meet the needs of the business,
- While performing the duties of this position, team members are required to be on their feet for extended periods of time,
- Occasionally required to lift and carry up to 50lbs, and,
- Occasionally required to lift and climb a step ladder or step stool.
